The heart have a multilayered lining, the endocardium , the myocardium or middle muscular layer, and the epicardium, a superficial layer that includes the visceral layer of the pericardium. Note how perforating vessels invade the myocardium, perforating vessels arise from the primary network vessels and enter the muscle of the ventricle obliquely, then pass through the thickness of the muscle supplying it en route and usually ending in a subendocardial plexus.
